NARS Soft Matte Complete Foundation Review

nars soft matte complete foundation

NARS Soft Matte Complete Foundation ($40) is a full coverage, natural finish matte foundation. I know that may be a lot for a foundation, but that is exactly what it is. Available in available in 34 shades, the liquid formula is super light weight on the skin. It features NARS’ exclusive Anti-Oxidation Complex that claims to help prevent the formula from oxidizing on the skin and to help protect the skin from pollution and blue-light damage. Here are some other claims:

  • 16-hour wear
  • Oil-free
  • Shine-proof
  • Transfer-proof
  • Humidity-proof
  • Sweat-proof

Packaging

I am obsessed with the packaging on this foundation. While I know some may want a pump, I really enjoy this being a squeeze tube not only for being able to control the amount I want, but also for travel purposes. The tube is clear but has a velvet texture as well as the black cap.

Formula

I have combination oily skin. I chose the shade Macao, but I think I can also wear Marquises comfortably. The “time to shine” for my oily areas with this foundation was 5 hours so the oil control claim may disappoint ladies who have oily skin. A little goes a long way and the texture of this foundation is smooth. As for application, it applies evenly when used with a brush or your fingers. I found this did not do well being applied with a sponge and came out patchy as it does dry quickly.

On my skin, the NARS Soft Matte Complete Foundation did look really good. I’m perfections were covered really well. My skin looked smoother and the formula hid my pores without the help of a primer. It also did not break up after 8 hours of wear and stayed put even though doing chores all day. I would not suggest this for persons who are looking for a natural look. This is a full on glam kind of foundation so I’d say it’s nice to have for a special occasion because it photographs beautifully , but not something I’d reach for every day.
