The Maybelline Color Strike Eye Shadow Pen ($6.99) is a cream to powder eye shadow that delivers no mess and bold color in one swipe. I particularly like the convenience of a pen as it is travel friendly and you do not need any brushes to apply.
Available in 10 shades, the formula consists of 4 metallics and 6 matte shades. There is no fallout during application and the opacity can be built up to your desire with no crumbling or creasing between layers.
The formula lasted over 8 hours during my wear test and did not fade or smudge during the day. When I was applying any of the Maybelline Color Strike Eye Shadow shades, I noticed that they played well with regular powder eyeshadow, allowing me to blend out my crease area with no issues. The shades I have are:
- Charm – A matte light, baby pink
- Crave – A matte deep, dark eggplant
- Chase – A matte tan with pink undertones
Its precise cushion tip makes the formula really easy and comfortable to apply. The cushion tip glides across lid, distributing the color evenly. There is also a small point on the tip of the applicator, which I found to be great for creating a smokey look with added precision and no fall out for the lower lash line.
I did have to dip back and forth a few times to build up the color intensity I wanted, so that may be a pain point for some folks. I really enjoyed the efficiency and speed that I was able to apply the product with and finish my makeup in record time, so a few dips back and forth was not a problem for me.
I will definitely look for the metallic shades to give them a try. If you have had the chance to try out the Maybelline Color Strike eye shadow pens, let me know how they have been working for you!
