The Makeup by Mario Surreal Skin foundation is a long-wearing, lightweight liquid foundation with a luminous yet natural finish. It has medium coverage that is buildable and is available in 30 shades. I purchased shade 230.
The packaging is very sleek and I like that there is a kind of peek-a-boo section on the box to see the shade that’s on the inside. The bottle is made of glass and comes complete with a pump. I do wish the white top was black but I totally understand the design contrast they may have been going for.
While the consistency of this foundation is not fluid, it is a moveable foundation, meaning that I can see this working well with your fingers or a brush. The Makeup By Mario website suggests applying this foundation with a brush. I believe using a sponge with this will most likely waste product. I used a Moda buffer brush to apply and there was no streaking with this foundation.
My skin almost immediately looked luminous and glowy. As for coverage, it is definitely medium with just a few of my acne scars peeking through. I did go in with a second coat just over those marks, but it did not build up too much. With that said, I would advise against trying to build this up to full coverage in order to avoid a caked-up look and just use a concealer. After seven hours of wear, I can say that my t-zone did have some oil, but nothing a blotting paper or sponge can’t fix.
The Makeup by Mario Surreal Skin foundation did not separate when my oils came up to the surface and stayed put the entire time I was wearing it. I will say that if you have texture on your skin, this may not be the foundation for you due to its luminous nature. A few of my texture issues did stand out a bit with this foundation. Making sure you exfoliate before wear may help with this too. There was some settling in my fine lines, but nothing that stand out if someone was not directly in front of me.
This foundation played very well with other makeup products and I can see this formula being a great addition to my winter/spring makeup routine. There are some specs of shimmer in there but I did not see them having any real impact on the final look of my skin. Have you tried this foundation yet?
