Maybelline Dream Velvet foundation is a drugstore foundation fantasy in a tube!
Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation ($10.99 for 1.0oz) is described as a hydrating matte foundation with a medium coverage that’s suitable for normal to combination skin. Boasting 12 shades, this light weight formulalation applied smoothly and wore well for nine hours before I started to look like a grease ball. I applied the foundation at 11am and by 3pm I saw some shine in my T-Zone and blotted with a tissue. By 8PM I was oily all over. The texture of this foundation was surprisingly smooth to the touch and melted into my skin once applied. I prefer to use a beauty blender to apply this foundation due to it’s light texture. I also enjoyed the soft focus finish to my skin that this foundation provided.
When I first swatched the foundation on my skin, I was a little taken aback because the color seemed rather dark, however, once I applied it to my face, the color melted into my skin. The Maybelline Dream Velvet foundation did well to cover some of my lighter scars but my deeper scars did show through a little. I would say this foundation is medium to full coverage and is not heavy at all. This foundation does claim a 12 hour wear, maybe for normal skin. Unfortunately, for my combination skin, after 9 hours of wear, my entire face, not just my oily T-Zone was very oily. The foundation did not move around and stayed in place even after my skin turned oily. This foundation does give a matte/velvet finish to the skin that is smooth and evens the skin tone. I think this is a great improvement in the Maybelline foundation line up and I hope they do release a matching concealer for this formula.
