Top 4 Hair Goals for 2016

Get healthier, happier hair with my top 4 hair goals for 2016

There’s so much potential in our hair that sometimes we can over do it and get frustrated with it’s progress. That’s why I think it’s so important to have a plan. For this new year, I came up with my top 4 hair goals for 2016. I tried to take it from a practical stand point that would be realistic to the issues that I had faced the previous year, and also to be a little more adventurous with my tresses.

Goal #1: Reduce Shedding

The end of last year was a little traumatic for me. I had suffered a lot of hormonal imbalances in my body and as a result, my hair paid for it. I lost a lot of body as you can tell in the pictures below. I watched my hair fall out in the tub and I felt rather depressed for a few months until I came to the realization that being sad would not bring my hair back. So, I found my happy and started to go back to my old ways of caring for my hair in it’s tender state. I stopped using combs and finger detangled while having less styling manipulation and so far it’s been working.

Goal #2: Start a Winter heat regimen

Heat is a very controversial topic in the natural hair community. December 2015 was the first time I had put a flat iron to my hair in over five years. I was scared of all the horror stories I had heard about heat damage, especially seeing as my hair was just bouncing back from all the shedding. My hair took the flat iron well and reverted back in about two weeks with no damage. This year until the end of March, once a month I will be flat ironing my hair to maintain a comfortable and healthy heat regimen with my hair.

Goal #3: Use up products

My bathroom counter is crying out for more space at this very moment, but it’s super hard to not try all the new yummy products out there now for natural hair. While I do have my staple products, I like to try new products which turn into more holy grail items. This year, I plan to make it my mission to use up what I have before venturing out into new hair care products.

Goal #4: Stick to a regimen

Last year I was guilty of slacking off with sticking to my regimen. I got lazy and did not want to be bothered with my hair. It was not in a protective style, yet I just let it sit in a bun for two weeks. This year, seeing as my hair went through such a traumatic experience, it’s time to stick to a regimen and get back to the techniques that had it in it’s full and luxurious glory. So here’s the plan:

  • Wash once a week
  • Co-Wash once a week
  • Deep condition once a week
  • ACV Rinse twice a month
  • Finger detangle once a week
  • Moisturize and seal daily
  • Scalp massage daily
  • Low Manipulation (no combs, except for when straightened)

I think my top 4 hair goals for 2016 are very easy to follow and actually stick to. Let me know in the comments what your hair goals are for 2016. I’m ready for long healthy hair, are you?
